Tamil Nadu rejects Chinamma; When is India rejecting Congress-amma?

The past week saw the drama unfold in Chennai as the AIADMK leaders decided that they don’t want Sasikala and her family in the party. This decision is of prime importance because it comes at a time when the country is going through another similar dilemma with the Congress party. The party leaders are preparing for the new leadership under Rahul Gandhi after 19 year long leadership of Sonia Gandhi. What is more important is that the party is staging a mock election that would elect him.

The TN AIADMK decision should come as a case study for the Congress party and its leaders that it is high time that they decide in the welfare of the party and its image as the party who earned India’s Independence. The party has been mired by many scams and all this is linked to the family who has tried to stay in power for the past 19 years. The family got its prominence in the party since the death of the iconic leader Rajiv Gandhi. And using the sentiment as a lightning rod for sympathy votes this family paved the way for a total eclipse of the party leadership. They rejected any other leaders in the party who had much better and new ideas. 

The people were fooled into thinking that the family has done a great sacrifice for the nation. The party leaders played using the same theme and continued this drama for the next two decades. Two decades of youth denied any prominence so that this family can have the center piece in the Indian Political scenario. And now the christening of Rahul Gandhi will turn out to be the last nail in the coffin for the Congress Party. It is the time that people of the Congress Party decide for a new leadership, one that doesn’t have the ‘Gandhi’ surname at the end. This brand has seriously been overused and misused.

The freedom fighters of India gave their lives so that we are freed of the clutches of the British Imperialism. But they would never approve of this decision because this is again a sort of imperialism. The fire that breaks the cold wave of imperialism should never turn into an inferno that engulfs lives of people and their freedom. It is time that the party displayed the same magic that it displayed many years ago. It should either change the leadership by putting their foot down for a new powerful leadership or it should change their flags and join a powerful group. There is no disease that is more deadly than hypocrisy. And another term under the Gandhi family will make the party a symbol of hypocrisy.

Perseverance is a good habit but it should not be confused with desperation. In the case of Arvind Kejriwal and the Congress party, this confusion is not relevant. Even a 2-year old is bored by the antics that the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have been playing. Now the Madhya Pradesh EVM rigging allegation on the BJP is the new one on their agenda to blame the BJP of unfair politics. Since the Congress and the AAP lost the elections in Goa and UP, they have been looking for payback. And now the EVM rigging news has brought them back into attention. 

But it is big issue that the EVMs can be rigged and that any party can take advantage of this. But why does the AAP and the Congress try to gain political face on this issue? It is the jurisdiction of the election commission and they are responsible for any problems that took place in this issue. But we are seeing the AAP chief making news reports and calling press conferences for this issue. The people might think, it was he, who was instrumental in finding out this goof-up. 

Let’s accept this fact that Kejriwal is the biggest mishap that occurred to Indian Politics after Rahul Gandhi. He was not even visible before Anna Hazare brought him into light and using this he climbed into politics. He became the Delhi CM, and then like an employee looking for a raise in his career, he tried for PM and failed. He tried for Gujarat and failed and then came Goa and lastly Punjab. How can a man be so desperate to attain power that he doesn’t even complete his term as a CM of the Capital of the country? Possibly his dean during his college days might have taught him –Life is a race; if you don’t run fast you will be finished.

But let us remind him that a man is easily judged by the friends he makes, not enemies. AAP is siding with the Congress party that is itself turning into a sinking ship. And the days are gone for people to play blame games on each other. People are not responding to parties that mock others or make allegations at others. Their priority is to vote for a party that is powerful and predictive. And BJP is the perfect answer for this priority. Trying to make the BJP look bad is only going to leave these parties trying while the BJP will go on to win people’s hearts with their policies and plans. For the AAP and the Congress policy making might be a regular tea-time or smoke-time indulgence that they laugh about.

 

A Politician with a job, commendable or not: Navjot Singh Sidhu

It is a common sight for people having power and money to join the Indian Political scenario. But there would rarely be a sight when even one of them has a job other than that. Politics is in itself considered as a job. But Navjot Singh Sidhu has become a black sheep amongst them. The minister fought back the efforts of media to criticize him for his participation in The Kapil Sharma Show.

Usually when a person enters the political realm in India, even when it is a minor role like a corporator he starts acting as a VIP, leaves all other jobs and just concentrates on moving ahead. It is looked upon like a career for the people. But when people try to break the convention and make a move they are bounced with questions. But rarely has it been seen that a person with solely a political career has made a significant contribution to the society. If it was so, even people from the Congress Party should have been able to make India the most prosperous country in the world. The media also fuelled to this trend by applauding people who are full-time ministers and who are not.

But in a minister’s normal day it is not just the minister who is busy. He has a host of people to aid to him and make his work easy. Many things are just talked over phone and emails rather than point-to-point meetings. It is mostly a one-way radio for a minister. Then what is that these ministers do the whole time that they cannot have a job of their own to support their own expenses. What is more striking is that even their day’s timetable is set by other people. And the Kapil Sharma Show is just a weekend affair and that will not be a big issue for Sidhu who works all week. Even government officers and private employees go on a weekend holiday.

Maybe it is time that we leave out the trend that a minister does not need a job. It is a minister who must have a job because he is a role model for other people. He should be free of any liabilities and he must not depend on the system for his sustenance. It is when people sustain via politics that corruption sprouts. This should be the trend that breaks it and makes a difference that ushers in a new wave of politics.

Working solely for a single occupation is a policy that is totally flawed and made up by MNCs trying to chain down people’s competencies. When a person tries to work many jobs, not only does his productivity grow but also he helps the nation grow. The corporate culture of estimation and countering competition by subjugation of talent is what led to this mono-employment process. It is time we break this tradition and mark a new wave of employment practices. Navjot Singh Sidhu is the role model for people who believe that politics is a service to the nation that you are capable of doing other than your own profession.
